Our Program
WRSS uses the Suzuki approach for instructing our students. It is often called the “mother-tongue” approach because the children learn music in the same way they learn to speak their native language. Originating in Japan by Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, the Suzuki approach has since been adapted for use in the study of various instruments as a natural way of learning music.
Why Group Classes? (a letter from a Suzuki mom)
While we believe that group classes, traditionally part of the approach, are a powerful tool for motivation and an integral part of the Suzuki method, we understand that the group class format doesn't fit all schedules and needs. Therefore, we offer two types of registration: Basic and Full
Program Option 1: Basic Registration
The Basic program registration includes, two performance classes, two recital rehearsals and two formal recitals annually. It allows families the most flexibility and affordability while still giving them access to expert Suzuki-based instruction and formal recital opportunities. Basic registration fee is $186.
Program Option 2: Full Registration
The Full program registration includes everything that the basic registration offers, but adds some of those important Suzuki Method inclusions like group class, public performance, ensemble practice and additional reinforcement of theory and note reading skills learned in lessons. Full Registration fee is $410
Full registrants benefit from:
Ten group lessons (on Saturday mornings) that reinforce the learning from their private one-on-one sessions.
A series of community performance opportunities including performing at the Akron Tree Festival, at major sporting events (Guardians, CAVS, etc.), on Fox8's morning show and for community-based groups like nursing homes and senior centers.
The opportunity to play in ensembles with students who range from beginners to advanced, helping them to learn to make music together.
Additional activities that build knowledge and skill in music theory and note reading.
Finally, Group classes provide the unique opportunity for students and families to make lifelong friends.
NOTE: Weekly private lesson fees are separate from the registration fees and are billed by the private lesson instructor. Private lesson fees are paid directly to the private instructor at various intervals throughout the year. Lesson fees are as follows:
30 min lesson - $36
45 min lesson - $56
60 min lesson - $72

Q: Why is Group Class so Important in Suzuki Method?
From socialization and ensemble to skills reinforcement and enrichment, we recommend choosing full registration w/ group classes.
Why Group Class?
Build relationships with our larger group opportunities by becoming a full registrant.
Saturday Group Classes meet about twice a month and serve to motivate and reinforce what is going on in the private lessons.
These classes also serve as an important social connection between students and families.
Reinforce learning
Groups classes are a great way to reinforce concepts introduced at lessons, allowing for student to participate with their peers in group classes and chamber orchestra.
Informal performance opportunities
Saturday group classes provide opportunities for students to perform their polished pieces for their peers. This valuable informal performance opportunity gives students a level of confidence and comfort when it comes to presenting music on a formal recital.
Build ensemble skills
Group classes also build ensemble skills and allow students to prepare music for community performances.
Improve musicianship & technique
Group classes also build ensemble skills and allow students to prepare music for community performances.
