Instrument and Supply Information

INSTRUMENT-SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS AND INFORMATION

VIOLIN:

You will need to purchase or rent a quality instrument after consulting with your teacher, who will measure your child and tell you which size to acquire. Most beginners will start on a box violin, made by the teacher, so a violin is not necessary at the first lesson. Many of our families use the rental program at Cleveland Violins or The Bowed String Shop which allows you to build equity toward the eventual purchase of an instrument.

CELLO:

You will need to purchase or rent a quality instrument after consulting with your teacher. You must have an instrument that is the right size, and so must be measured by the teacher he/she intends to study with. Consult with your teacher before obtaining any instrument.

Your student will also need a stool or chair: Proper chair height is essential for the beginning cellist. Adjustable cello benches are required for all beginning cellists. Benches are available for purchase through Cleveland Violins. Please consult with your teacher regarding purchasing a cello stool.
